After AP picks up the story, I would suggest that George talk to Science News weblink. They would likely to a better story and give better coverage on their site. SN goes into a lot of High Schools and many people in the science community read it to keep tabs on other fields. It is a very quick turn around bi-weekly (it used to be weekly, but with postage and all, now has the same total content annually, but fewer issues). They will likely cover the story of the EFF award when it happens.
Not yet. It should be about another 3.5 days. I don't think (I hope not) I'm holding up any press releases since it has already been verified twice now.
Well if your verification doesn't finish before the press release, you may not get credit for it in the initial press release. On the other hand, you already have credit for verification of MAug...
The press apparently want y'all to suffer. I just got an email from Scott (excerpt below, "They" refers to the newspaper Scott is working with):

They asked us to NOT release the news or details to anyone else until they
have the editor's final approval, and if they publish it, to wait/embargo
all other outlets until the story is first out through them.
Did the newspaper give a specific date?

Anyway, I tried searching for '10 million digit prime' on Google. The first 3 pages give 2 relevant results: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/47/science-math-philosophy/first-10-million-digit-prime-found-287248/ and http://www.primegrid.com/. Neither one has any incorrect or leaked information.

The suspense is killing me. After not visiting the mersenne website for months, then coming back and seeing two new primes have been discovered was a huge shock. Now it is the ANTICIPATION of actually learning what the exponents are.

It's hard to believe that the olympics were still happening when M45 was found. I knew it would be a while, so I did my best to forget about it, and not think about it.

I can't do that anymore. I'm checking a couple times an hour now for an update! :bob:

Sorry for the double post, for some reason it asks me to log in each time I post, even though I am already logged in. Furthermore, it then says I do not have permission to post and then takes me to a page to log in again (even though it apparently posted my reply- twice). Does anyone know why this might be happening?

I'm in the same boat, but a 10+ million digit prime should be a major announcement, with as much fanfare and exposure as possible.

These are just ideas, I have no clue what is really happening.

It's 1:15 am in George Woltman's time zone. Sept. 15 has come and gone.
