BTW anyone know what percentage of GIMPS first-time tests curtisc runs? It can't be proportional to the percentage of primes they've found lately, especially if one or both of these recent ones are found by them.
I've downloaded the cleared.txt right now.
There are 7477 LL-results in the range > M30000000 in the list.
The User "curtisc" did 913 of them (~12.2%).

There are 3099 LL-results in the range < M30000000 in the list.
The User "curtisc" did only 26 of them (~0.8%).

There are 1432 factored Mersennes in the list
The User "curtisc" did only 29 of them (~2.0%).

Someone could say that he's greedy for first time LLs ;)
On another thought, did you notice that 17 Mersenne numbers over 100 million digits have been manually reserved for LL test, 15 of which by "ANONYMOUS"?

Is someone testing his new software or cluster?

Luigi
Where did you see that? EDIT: I see now.

Oh well, I should finish testing M100,000,039 long before they finish a 100 million digit LL test. EDIT: Unless ANONYMOUS has one of those 16 core machines...

I've just finished testing M100100107 and M101101111 :censored:
M100100107 has a factor: 128877173349569012713
M101101111 has a factor: 191058234408477947057
Perhaps the server can't say Prime, VERIFIED : 1 without revealing what the prime is.
Bingo. The report won't change unless Scott modifies the program that creates the report. I doubt that is a high priority for him.
I also think it is for press purposes. This way they can write a press release announcing "Back-to-Back New Primes". Besides, if they were announced separately, the news of the September prime would probably be widely ignored...
Again on target. It can be difficult enough to stir up press interest. Announcing a second find one or two weeks after this prime would be greeted with a big yawn no matter how big the second prime is.

Another advantage is that it gives us time to get two verifications on both primes.

Please no screaming, but Scott is looking at September 15th. In the pre-GIMPS days it often took 6 months or more from time of discovery to time of publication. So patience please

Uncwilly 2008-09-08 17:23
Independent verification has begun and should complete on the 11th.

It seems that the second one is much smaller... :)
Or maybe it is real big and Sun decided to allow one BIG bruiser of a machine to be allowed to run it. Showing off the power a new machine, "the x-35 completed a verification run of a 10M digit number in 15 days, while the X-47b completed a verification of a 25M digit number in only 5 days."

Or the discoverer did what I would do. My first time LL machine is does not communicate automatically. If I found a prime, I would e-mail George with the expo and the save file. Then later, let the program com. That would let the verification runs to start sooner than the expo hitting Primenet. This would disguise the size of the expo.

A reminder, I only speak for myself and have no inside knowledge.

BTW, I noticed Mike has added some new smilies.

You and I think alike...

So the possibilities are much smaller or much bigger than previous verified prime.

I'm biased towards the first possibility.

I also get the feeling that "M46" is actually the smaller of the two. However, I guess I shouldn't complain since we (presumably) just discovered a prime of over 10 million digits!

P-1 on potential primes

I ran P-1 again on those potential prime exponents that had only stage 1 done. No factors were found. All results were reported via primenet, except the last one which primenet for some reason does not accept.
32428427
P-1 B1=1000000, B2=20000000

Exponent found 23th of August: 60% done.

OK. I know that it's too late... This one has been proved prime already...
However a 2nd verification is useful. Maybe a third one ?
So mine is 60% done.

You might be on to something.
