Hello !

Sorry, I was in vacations ! Sea, Sun and ... Sand. South-East of France: Marseille, Hyères, Giens. Callanques... Several good old friends. Very nice weather ! But no Internet.

So, I'm back home since yesterday and, after a nice restaurant with my children (red "Côtes du Rhône" !), I've read my emails very late and found this wonderful news: A NEW BIG PRIME !
Congratulations to all the team !

I'll read my emails in details and see if they need some help for the verification. Maybe it's too late. However, I'll ask my company if I can borrow a big machine: that really depends on the projects we have with customers.

Félicitations pour cette magnifique découverte !

I've noticed that the 4 previous Mersenne primes were discovered during French vacations (and so I had the opportunity to use a big machine of my company, Bull SAS). This new one has (again) been discovered during (summer) vacations and during MY vacations... Strange ?!

Regards,
Tony

No. I meant to say exactly what I said. Please see the comment hidden by the spoiler and consider the context.

I guess that raises the question, if you go on vacation more often will we find more Mersenne Primes?

Glad to hear you have enjoyed your vacation.
I would guess that if you can't verify the number before
September 12th, it is bigger than 10M digits.

I was thinking the same as Ernst but...
Yes. I think MiniGeek's quibble was fairly worthless:smile:
The use of the extremely familiar unit "Million" and the immediate
clarification of the position of the decimal point made the author's
point as clearly as possible.

Higher or lower?
Who said "No magazine editor ever went bust through
underestimating the intelligence of its audience"?

Welcome back, Tony!

By the way, you should go on vacations more often.

You did?

"No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public." is attributed to H.L. Mencken

"No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." is attributed to P.T. Barnum. Chances are neither one of them said it.

THX.
Well considering that I was referring to the style in "Scientific American"
I think my paraphrase was fairly accurate, if not original as I acknowledged.
