I believe I understand why the sieve file is in base 6; 36 being 6-squared and all.
But why are there odd powers of 6 in the sieve file?
Hum. I did not survey the file in detail before posting it. OK, I think it may be this: The base 6 k's with odd n's may be for base 36 k's multiplied by 6 for (n-1)/2. For instance where n is odd: k * 6 ^ n - 1 = 6k * 36 ^ ((n-1)/2) - 1 Verify that 6k is a k remaining for base 36. If that is not the case then something is wrong. |

When I started that sieve, I monkeyed around with the sequences so they were fully reduced (b=36->6^2; 6k->k). I'm usually pretty thorough about these kinds of things, but please double-check if you have any doubts. Fun fact: I did not do the same reductions with b = 243 = 3^5. Anyone want to guess why? |
R79 Update
1146966*79^50005-1 is prime!
Update: Only 15 ks tested to 60K so far due to computer issues linked to a faulty LLR install. The progress will be much faster once these are fixed. K's tested: 234 254 434 564 1226 3074 3194 4086 4866 5216 5286 1146966 Anybody care to explain the algebraic factor situation on K1296? According to my knowledge of algebra all that needs to be removed is 0 mod 2, correct? |
Anybody care to explain the algebraic factor situation on K1296? According to my knowledge of algebra all that needs to be removed is 0 mod 2, correct?
That is correct for k=1296. All n=(0 mod 2) can be removed. Any k's that are completely removed by algebraic factors have already been removed from the base so you do not have to be concerned about those. Any squared k's can have n==(0 mod 2) removed. Any cubed k's can have n==(0 mod 3) removed if there are any. I will wait until you are complete to n=60K for all k's to show anything on the pages. This is a multi-CPU-year effort. Are you sure that you wish to continue? Can you maintain your interest for that long? You have spent one month already and tested exactly 12 (listed not 15) out of 6120 k's. That's 0.2% or 1/500th of the reservation. I know that you had problems with LLR but even if you don't have problems it's a very long effort. I usually encourage new people to make much smaller reservations. |

If you can demonstrate that you know how much time that it will take you to finish this reservation and that you can maintain interest for that long I will consider reserving it again for you. |
Taking R36 from 250k to 400k. I have a new (well, used) 12-core workstation coming this week, this is a nice big project on which to break it in.
Thanks to Masser for a very extensive sieve! (100T already).
A bit of a slow start; I have reached 260k. One prime found so far (reported in the top-5000 thread). The sieve is at 102T; I have one core sieving, two on LLR. I'll add more LLR cores in Spring when other projects complete. |
Reserving R63 to n=25k (15-25k) (145.37245M-153.1426M) for BOINC
How is R63 going? I haven't seen an update in a while. |

R66 status update
R66 finished to n=10K last night.
Still have to put all files and things in order before sending the primes and remaining k to Gary. Maybe tonight. Some people (from which the most serious by far is VBCurtis) asked me in the past to "share" R66, i.e. they reserve some k's and I won't work on them (exclude them from my workers) to n=25k or so. My answer at the time was that I will finish everything to n=10k, then the assignments will become available via Gary. That because it was quite difficult for me to sort what I keep and what I give away (or I was lazy, whatever), as long as the work (sieving, cllring, etc) was in proces in different systems/cores. Therefore I will unreserve it right now, and I will take it back in about 4-6 months or so, resuming the k's which will be at that time unreserved to n=25k by other people (hope to be able and have resources to do so...) |

Reserving R66 for sieving. I should have files ready for testing by the time LaurV is ready to resume his work on this base. |
