Your AMD timings are normal- the Core2 architecture is indeed that much faster per-clock than AMD64. A sempron is only marginally slower per clock than a full athlon64, or turion (notebook chip). You have about a 2x performance gain clock-for-clock, which is a little higher than what I have measured with turion vs dual-core core2.
Linux should make no difference, or result in a slight speed boost. Vista can slow things down compared to XP, especially during times you are using the computer. Welcome to the search! -Curtis |
