I wouldn't worry about what Primegrid is doing.
They have 0 respect for anybody else's reservations so deserve only distain in return.

Not much can be done to stop them so lets just crunch whatever numbers we like when we like and how we like.

PCZ, I'm not quite sure what you mean here. As I understand it, PrimeGrid uses a system rather like NPLB's for dealing with preexisting reservations--they simply reserve all unreserved ranges on the Proth Search website (which is rather similar to the former PrimeSearch system which NPLB coordinated with), and do those. Users with other reservations are given warning well in advance that PrimeGrid will be doing those ranges in the future, and that as long as they can keep ahead of PrimeGrid's leading edge, then they can get credit for their work just as always. PrimeGrid will then do the ranges again themselves when they reach them, but it will still be useful as a doublecheck.

NPLB uses a very similar system. Now that the original PrimeSearch website is defunct, that component of the system is no longer in place, though users can still track our progress both here on our forum and at [URL]http://www.rieselprime.de[/URL], the de facto website for keeping track of k*2^n-1 reservations and status. When we start a range, if there are any reservations that have had primes reported within at least a year or so (if not, then almost definitely they have been abandoned and the user forgot to tell anybody that, which happens a lot) then we will make every effort to notify that user of our plans, and offer them access to our sieved files if they'd like. They are welcome to join us if they like, or continue searching their k's individually, in which case we will simply perform a doublecheck of the ranges. The only stipulation is that they stay ahead of our leading edge, which is not hard considering that we're doing hundreds of k's at once, and other individual reservation-holders are doing only a few at most. They can move rather quickly, compared to NPLB, on a small handful of k's even on relatively small resources.

Well I guess them reserving k=1200-10000 doesn't constitute a reservation then, because there is no way they can complete that in 2 months. I guess that falls into the category of the right hand not having a clue what the left hand is doing. And people want to know why I hate Boinc. 10 Boincers, 1 subject, 15 different opinions.

While we're mentioning n>1M ranges, I'd like to add that I'm reserving k=313 past n=1M if I don't find any new primes for that k.

As far as updates go, I'm at n=930K for k=313 with no primes found. I'll post the lresults file when it gets to n=950K, which should happen before the end of the month.

Here is how it will work. PrimeGrid will reserve large ranges of k and n. It will perform both a first test and a double-check of all candidates. When it is within weeks of completing this reservation, it will place another reservation for a smaller range of k and n.[B][U] Of note, some of these ranges will overlap ranges currently reserved to other searchers.[/U][/B] [U][B]PrimeGrid will NOT SEARCH those ranges. The standard [COLOR=red]ProthSearch policy[/COLOR] is that each searcher has two months to complete any reservation.[/B] [/U][B][COLOR=red]That policy will not be changed[/COLOR][/B]. If you have a reservation that is not completed within two months, that range will be available for PrimeGrid to search.
