LLRnet server rally March 8th-9th
 

Come one come all...

NPLB will be hosting an LLRnet server rally starting on March 8th at 7 PM GMT and running for 24 actual hours. These rallies are great fun so bring everything you have.

This will be our first rally for top 5000 primes as we attempt to catch k=300-400 up to the k=400-1001 n-value testing limit in order to merge them together and more importantly, move the project up to 5th or perhaps even 4th or 3rd place for top-5000 primes!

The rally will be on one of IronBit's excellent servers. With 4GB of RAM, everything should run smoothly. The server info. for the rally is:

server = "llrnet.no-ip.info"
port = 5000

This info. will go in your llr-clientconfig.txt file.

I used the term 'running for 24 hours' because we have to be very specific in this case. Caution for U.S. residents and perhaps people from some other countries: Due to a new U.S. law enacted in 2007, daylight savings time (DST) begins at 2 AM local time on 3/9/2008 for most states. The rally will still run 24 actual hours, which will be 25 hours on your computer clock if your state or country recognizes DST and it is starting on that date. To underscore the confusion, IronBits home state, Arizona, is one of the few U.S. states to not recognize DST.

I am not clear when the official GMT makes this DST adjustment or if that adjustment is made at all. We will need to figure that out so things are not started or stopped an hour early or late.

Yeah, I alluded to that in my post.

So, then GMT never changes either? In other words, there's no GMT daylight savings time? lol

So, for example, I'll start at 1 PM CST and end at 2 PM CDT, right?

GMT doesn't change. The time zones where GMT is the standard may go to GMT+1 during the summer, but GMT itself doesn't change.

Correct and the same for me. 3/8 1 PM CST - 3/9 2 PM CDT. East coast would be 3/8 2 PM EST - 3/9 3 PM EDT. Arizona is mountain time but doesn't do daylight savings so 3/8 noon - 3/9 noon. Others in mountain time 3/8 noon MST - 3/9 1 PM MDT.

Edit: Per Mini-Geek's edited comment, GMT never changes. [B]Hence the rally is from 3/8 7 PM GMT - 3/9 7 PM GMT as have been rallies in the past.[/B]

pay attention for european user: "summer time" only occur on last sunday of march (and "winter time" on last sunday of october)

so we don't change next week-end !

in Britain we call it British Summer Time although i dont know what other countries using GMT call their summer time

I've added a second clock, set to GMT, to my taskbar (in Ubuntu this is very easy to do) so that I can keep track of when the rally starts and ends easier. :wink:

1 server for Beyond; 1 for rest of us for rally
 

I was thinking for this rally, would it make sense to have Beyond running on one server and the rest of us on another server? If Beyond's machines crash the server he is on, at least he can lesson the load a little bit on that one server while still having substantial tests going on and also having the least impact to all of us.
