server transition news

Hi,

i think my transition plans were better then expected.
The server is now running on the new machine for over 21 hours and
nobody recognized it.

Updates for the stats and reswervation files is every 30 minutes.
There are two changes to the llrnet server.
First: sheduling of the next task to be handed out is changed so that the lowest available n will be used.
Second: Reservation of ranges for the llrnet server. The server does not get a fixed range of k/n pairs anymore. There is a reservation task that checks if the server has less then 400 pairs not handed out. If this is the case it reserves the lowest 100 k/n pairs which have no reservation file yet.

Forgot to say:

Please use only www.psp-project.de from now on as the old server will not be updated anymore. I will change the forum reservation threads to use the new links later today.

Could you give an example, it is a bit confusing?

I think I understand it now, but how are the manual files handled?

For the handout of the data:

On the old server the pairs were sorted first by k and the by n.
So the server sends all pairs for one k and the the pairs for the next k and so on.
Now the sortation is by n and the by k. So the server allways uses the lowest unsend n from the list.

For the reservation within the DB.

For the old filebased server i generated a special reservation for example for n in the range from 2050000-2250000.
When the file was nearly finished i made manual a new reservation.
The reservation proccess looks for k/n pairs which have no internal reservation. An internal reservation is made when the k/n pair in the database has a reservation file name like "knpairs.txt".

So the new proccess does not reserve big chunks anymore.
When there are less then 400 pairs not handed out to the client the system
will look for 100 extra k/n pairs. At the moment these pairs would come from n>2315000 as the last reservation file goes from 2314000-2315000.
The process would then reserve for example from 2315000-2319000.

Edit: Correction here: When you look at http://www.psp-project.de/candleft.html
you will see that we have already internal reservations up to 2350000. So the server would start with 2350000-2354000 for example.

I hope i made myself a little bit clearer now.

Lars
