Ranges Remaining: 7. Factors to Find: 83.
Both prime numbers... |
And 108.9M too, it needs only 2 more factors!
But it should be done anyway before the project finishes. |
With the new factor of M18868373, the range 18.8M is finally below 2000.

Thanks a lot ... the next project might be calling your name. I mean all of you: masser, SethTro, Alpertron, Luminescence, and other names not on the tip of my tongue right now. You are all appreciated and all welcome to move to project next. |
I found that the range 15.20M to 15.22M has no P-1 done. If you want, I can run P-1 in that range.

Mike and I are working through the entire 15.2M range. We've so far completed about 25-40% of the ranges you mentioned. We expect to finish in about 3 or 4 days. Chris put his entire GPU72 team to help 15.5M. They are also only a few days from finishing. The ranges that actually seem to need help are 8.1, 8.7 and 15.6. They have the least remaining but they are working solo. I was going to help there if required after 15.2M .... or you could offer. If I/we can arrange to do so without getting in each others way. Regardless, it appears the last factor should be found within less than a week. Thanks P.S. Or if it interests you, you can move over to the follow on project here. |
5 ranges, less than 50 factors to go, from which 23 in 15M2.
As it seems, all will be finished tonight except for the 15.2, so my suggestion is to let Wayne work the 15.2 alone, so he will be busy for a month or two and won't bother us with other projects... Joking apart, congrats guys, you all did a wonderful job! |
I'd like to join the game. Could I reserve 8.7 for P-1? I may do some TF, but not sure my GPU will keep up. So, if anyone else feels the urge, TF is welcome.
If I am reading it right you are focusing on certain sub-sub ranges that are still over 200 Factors. So do you mind if I P-1 in ranges already below 200...i.e. say 8.73M? Thanks |
Sure, 8.73M. 8.77M or 8.79M are ones I wasn't planning on working. I don't know what it is going to take to get 8.78M under 200 since I have done P-1 on all of them to at least 8000000 for B1.

One option is another TF level. Statistically even with all the P-1 there's a decent chance it would find the last 7 factors. No no that is not right...sorry. At least 7 factors in all of 8.7M. Might be only 1 or 2 in 8.78M. So the best choices are even deeper P1 or ECM. If you kept the P1 save files you don't have to start from zero. |
This should be the last week.
All 1M ranges are now under 20,000 Factors; the last to fall was 15M today.
The 5 remaining ranges of interest are all under 20 factors to go. 29 total factors remaining 15, 6, 3, 3, 2 to be exact. |
@firejuggler: do have any issue if I grab some 15.6M assignments to help finish it?

One more reminder of the follow-up project.
With this project expected to complete in a couple days...
and if you still want to use the power of v30.8 to find lots of P-1 factors in low ranges... see the TL;DR summary to the follow-up project here. |
This project will complete in several hours……
Only 5 factors left, and tomorrow morning it will be done. Congratulations! |

I'm expecting the Easter Bunny will find the last factor.

Last one!
I bet that factor will be found in minutes:bounce wave: |
Let the party begin!!!!
The last factor in this project was found at: 2022-04-16 03:07 UTC (by me )
What was initially anticipated to take me 685 years (i.e. NEVER) was completed in 1,727 days; about 4.75 years. Over these almost 5 years "the collective" found close to 60,000 factors. On 2017/07/24 I initially identified 497 ranges under 60M that needed clearing. Along with these there were about 28 other stubborn ranges from 60M to 108.3M that got caught up in our vortex. In other words the help I received was beyond amazing. I am truly afraid to start noting all the help I received as I know I'm going to forget something or someone. And for that reason I will (in most cases) avoid names and still I will apologize in advance to anyone who feels missed. 1. Many of you for valuable advice regarding parameters, settings, methods, techniques, etc. that saved all of us time and frustration 2. Over time more and more of you offered your CPU's and GPU's. I suspect what was initially seen as a whimsical silly pipe-dream slowly gathered (A LOT OF!!!) steam and interest. --- A few of you offered some mind blowing GPU capacity to TF away thousands of factors. 3. I do need to mention @Chris for all the ways he supported us including: --- Setting up the TWOK web page to track progress --- The time and energy to enable colab to encourage, gather, manage and simplify for those who chose to get involved. 4. @George for the incredible speed-up in P-1 processing under v30.8. Even though this version only come to be less than 5 months ago I estimate it saved this project about 1 year elapsed time. Wow! I cannot thank each and every one of you enough. Wayne P.S. I humbly reserve the right to add to this as I realize my oversights (5 years is way, way beyond my senior memory capabilities.) :bow wave: |
It has been good fun. Thanks for this challenge. I still look forward to the goal stated in the title of this thread: getting to less than 20M unfactored. I acknoledge it will be a really tough one, but... who knows what this communnity will be able to achieve?
|
Congrats!

Fitting!!! :tu: Thanks, Wayne for thinking of, and then coordinating, this massive undertaking. It was absolutely amazing seeing the amount of firepower out there! Both GPU and CPU. And, of course... George and 30.8. Mind-blowing! |
I still look forward to the goal stated in the title of this thread: getting to less than 20M unfactored. I acknowledge it will be a really tough one, but... who knows what this community will be able to achieve?
Yes that was the ultimate goal ... but I understood from the beginning that the ranges above 100M or so will finish on it's own over time. |
What was initially anticipated to take me 685 years (i.e. NEVER) was completed in 1,727 days; about 4.75 years.
Somewhere in the early days of this project - I think it was somewhere around the post #500 - you expressed your wish for this project to finish in under 2000 days. Your wish came true! |
Congratulations!!!
As you said the "title project" will finish on its own over time, current status: 20,422,960 unfactored exponents Based on the speed of the last 365 days with 201558 factors found, ETA to 20M unfactored is 766 days: ~ May 2024. |
Yes that was the ultimate goal ... but I understood from the beginning that the ranges above 100M or so will finish on it's own over time.
True. But "finishing on it`s own" means they will be factored as part of the effort to find new MPs, and that will take a LOT of years to progress up the ranges until 1G. Without some dedicated factoring effort, most (may be all?) of us will never see the end of it. We will keep the TF rate mentioned in ATH´s last post iif we invest resources in TFing exponents for the heck of it, that meaning many years before the front wave of 1st time PRP is even getting anywhere close. A good example is SRBASE´s work. And in any case it will not be easy to keep up as the TF levels go higher, unless there is really a lot of effort involved. Also, P-1 will progressively loose its luster as the size of the exponents grows, while ECM is out of consideration for exponents above 20M or so, at least with the current sw/hw resources. So, my point is: high ranges will finish on their own... provided we give it a push . I´m at it already. |
A good example is SRBASE´s work.
Is there any reason to think that SRBase's work won't be sufficient? |
Is there any reason to think that SRBase's work won't be sufficient?
Yes and Judger and Ryan Propper doing P1 and several other big guns I think we're in good hands. That said, every bit of help will shrink the time line. With less exponents in the later ranges and with cheaper TF up there we won't need much P1 to finish these ranges. |
Is there any reason to think that SRBase's work won't be sufficient?
Quite frankly, I can´t say it won´t be. But the amount of "Factored" results they are returning is diminishing over time, in line with the increased effort needed to complete the bit levels. I don´t know how the number of participants is varying, either, and how persistent will they be as the work gets tougher and tougher, so it´s not clear what is to be expected from their side for the future. So far, they have been a /great/ help, that´s for sure. |
That said, every bit of help will shrink the time line.
If desired... It would be trivial for me to bring into GPU72 a few ranges (fully reserved this time) for automatic coordination (Colab TF, etc). Just let me know what range(s) I should bring in. This would actually help GIMPS (in the *very* long term); the Low Composite Cleanup sub-project is definitely only GIMFS... |

IMHO I'd let SRBase, Ryan et al work their magic and then wait for the leftovers, ie like 108.3. I expect very few. That said, if anyone requests a TF range here I have no issue with that. |
Going to work on 123.1 - 123.2 using this form

108.9
Looks like 108.9 will be one of those rare trailing cases left behind.
It needs 2 more factors. I'm going to finish TF77 over the next week hoping to finish. If it does not find the factors I'll look at P-1 next .... unless someone wants it first  |

I'll have a crack at some with B1=B2.
As you said the "title project" will finish on its own over time, current status: 20,422,960 unfactored exponents Based on the speed of the last 365 days with 201558 factors found, ETA to 20M unfactored is 766 days: ~ May 2024.
Now the number has reached 20,348,514. That's 74,446 newly-factored exponents in 129 days, i.e. 577 per day. This speed is faster than your data (552 per day). ETA is now March 2024 from my data. And I think there will be further increase in our speed since the release of v30.8 (faster P-1) and v30.9 (faster ECM), so I think it is possible that the ultimate goal can be reached before the new year of 2024. |

The most prolific contributor is srbase, which is a team of about 100 members using their GPU. |

P-1 found a factor in stage #2, B1=859433, B2=148052100. M108906529 has a factor: 4081181996838659866466757911 (P-1, B1=859433, B2=148052100) Took 48 attempts, with expected 3.7% probability. A bit worse than expected, but not my usual dry streak :p |

And these ranges will definitely be completed "by itself" as the "wave-front" of GIMPS reaches there. |
Minor Milestone....
All 100M ranges here now have less than 2,040,000 un-factored.
That suggests that with 2 more TF bit levels completed these same ranges will all be under 2,000,000 ToGo. After that I'll see where we are at with the 10M, 1M and 100K ranges to be under 200,000, 20,000 and 2,000 respectively....the defined end-goal of this project. |
100M range has just passed the "less than 2,000,000 unfactored" milestone 👍.
