Any tests/advice with Woodcrest (Xeon 5100)

The Xeon 5100 CPUs (codenamed Woodcrest) were released in June 2006,
has anyone tested either a single or dual Xeon 5100 system ?

Tests/benchmarks for Prime95/MPrime or other distributed projects
in subforums at mersenneforum.org.

What standard or custom built systems ?
Info on MB motherboard/CPU(s)/RAM (amount/model)/PSU/OS also cost.
Performance and stability results/issues.

Any advice/recommendations/warnings
or interesting systems/components ?

A motherboard that appears interesting is the ASUS

A system from ASUS

TYAN (Tempest i5000), IWill (DPK), Supermicro (X7 D) and others
also make Xeon 5100 server/workstation boards.

There appears to be an issue with some Intel chipsets for the XEON with RAID support.

The soon to be released, desktop Core 2 Duo ( Conroe ) used with Intel's D975XBX with RAID5 also has a problem.

I'll add a "me too" post, if anyone is using a dual woody system, I'd like to see how they are going with it.

I'm interested in a dual woodcrest system but it appears you can buy 2x complete conroe systems and still come out ahead on the performance/dollar.

I'd like to see a consumer-grade dual conroe system as what AMD are proposing with their 4x4 platform.

No woodcrest but I have found some prime95 C2D (E6600) benchmarks here:

(Search for "prime95" in the rather long post.)

103ms/4096FFT@2.4 and 83ms@3.0, about 7 ms for 67bit-TF@2.4 :w00t:

I am not sure if only one or two cores were active during the bench.

The low increase in power consumption during the Prime95 runs looks nice!

I'm jealous.

The E6600 is 50% faster (for LL) than my P4 Northwood @ 2.8GHz, per core!

So if those speeds can be maintained with 2x prime95 processes, that means the E6600 will be 3x the throughput of my P4.

But the trial factoring is approx double my P4.

It'll be interesting to see how the quadcore chips go at the end of the year.

If I interpret the E6600 result correctly, it LL tests at about the same speed as a dual-4.2 Ghz Pentium 4. 900-series chips overclock to this range, correct?
I've read many places that getting a 6300 to 6600 speed isn't too difficult, while getting a 920 to 4.0 Ghz (same ballpark for speed) is also reasonably easy, but much cheaper.

Does this mean 900 series P4s are still price/performance LL leaders? Local Fry's has a 915 with board for $139. I think this setup only OCs to 3.5 Ghz, but Conroe plus board will be twice as much. Thoughts?

Core2 2.6 GHz : 15 days
P IV 4.2 GHz : 17 days + 10 hours

Too many factors go into this to make a conclusion here. You must compare total system cost, not just motherboard & CPU. That is, say Conroe & MB are double the price of a 900 series P4. Once you add the disk/memory/DVD/graphics card it might be only 25% more. Then factor in two to five years of electricity and you might find the Conroe is now cheaper.
