2018 project goals
Below are some goals for 2018 that CRUS could shoot for:
1. Prove 10 bases; 8 bases to go. 2. Search all bases <=700 with 1 k remaining (at n=200K) to n>=400K; 10 bases to go. 3. Search all bases with <= 3 k's remaining (at n=100K) to n>=200K;completed 2018/12/01 4. Search all bases with < 400 k's remaining (at n=25K) to n>=100K; completed 2018/08/29 5. Search all bases with < 1000 k's remaining (at n=10K) to n>=25K; completed 2018/07/07 6. Complete searching of S3 to n>=25K; completed 2018/02/24. 7. Complete all bases with conjectured k < 50K to n=25K; completed 2018/02/09. 8. Complete new bases with conjectured k < 100K to n=10K; completed 2018/01/17. These are agressive goals but with everyone's help I'm confident that we can accomplish many or all of them. If anyone would like to add a different goal or a different target for one of the above, please feel free to discuss. In the future, we will plan to set such goals around the beginning of each year. |
Alternate Goals Suggestion
I count 59 (announced) top 5000 primes in 2017 in this thread:
http://mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=9782 100 top 5000 primes in 2018; completed 2018/05/12. 50 top 3000 primes in 2018; completed 2018/05/01. 25 top 1000 primes in 2018; 8 primes to go. 10 top 100 primes in 2018; 10 primes to go. 3 top 50 primes in 2018; 3 primes to go. Any of those potential goals sound appealing? |

All goals, expect #1, can be reached by us.
As you may have seen I started working on R109 and will test other bases as well to n=400K. Sieve files for #4 and #5 may be hard to generate. I recommend doing the files for #5 at your own. I´ll take this year 2-3 bases from n=10K-25K, depending how long they need. |

I think that BOINC could complete testing many or all of them on both sides if you can complete the sieving. I would only recommend that BOINC test them to n=400K or 500K. That should not take them too long for each base. I think if we can complete testing of the 1kers to n=400K or 500K then the proofs for #1 will follow. There will also likely be a couple of proofs from #3. I can do most of the sieving for #4. There are something like 10 bases that need sieving and only about 20 bases that need testing. About 10 of them have already been sieved. These are surprisingly large efforts for an individual so BOINC could do all of the testing. N=25K-100K seems to be their favorite testing range anyway. I can easily do all of the sieving for #5. There are about 6 bases plus there would be any new bases that are currently being tested to n=10K that need to be sieved. The tests would likely be too short for BOINC so you, me, and others could work on those. I'm not saying that we can complete all of these but we can accomplish most of them with these targets in mind. This is my effort to finally give the project some direction. :-) |
#8 was completed on Jan. 17th.
Only S522 to n=25K is needed to complete #7. |
And #7 has now been completed!
|
#6 has been completed, but needs verification from Gary. I'll likely need to run ranges of remaining k to make sure that I didn't miss any primes.

Very well done on a huge effort, Mark! |
No "R66 to 100k" in the goals list?

I'm on it!! Sieve is nearly 30G, LLR is, uhm, leisurely. Wanna do a million tests or so? OK, how about 10,500 to 11,000? I'm almost down to 100k k's. :) |
