Reserving k=43 - until I find a prime for it

Cruelty 2009-07-30 12:02

Reserving the following k:

from n=1.7M: 51, 57, 61, 65, 87
from n=1M: 111, 115, 117, 119, 125, 129, 135, 149, 155, 157, 165, 175, 179, 185, 191, 209, 213, 215, 229, 231, 237, 241, 249, 261, 265, 267, 271, 273, 279, 285, 291, 293
from n=1.12M: 79, 83, 89, 91
k=73 from n=2M
k=75 from n=1.5M
Total of 43 k.
The purpose of this reservation is sieving with upper limit of n=5M (afterwards we can launch an RPS drive based on this). Preliminary sieve file ready till p=2T should be ready in the first half of September, and at that time I will welcome any support in this effort
Initial target depth is p=50T which should be sufficient at least till n=2M.

VBCurtis 2009-07-30 17:23

Cruelty-
Please add 201 to the sieve, though I wish to keep it reserved for myself. I am nearly done to 1.2M, and was just about to start a new sieve for it; please start it at 1.2M. I will assist with sieving as always.

You will find that 50T is not nearly enough sieving to even start testing- with such a large sieve, efficiency rises quite a lot. I won't be surprised if 300T is optimal for 1.2M candidates, for instance. It does make sense to run one sieve to save overall effort, even though it will be slow going.

For comparison, I have a 5-k sieve (11,13,31,45,99) going to n=4M. At 370T, I just pulled out candidates below 2M for LLR work. With 43 k's and n=5M, I imagine optimal depth for n=2M would be close to 1P. This is a very very big project.

I few years ago I asked Bliss help for sieving k=223 from 2M to 3M but I only have the factors from 6.26T to 100T. Do you want them? I only ask people if they find a prime to share at least one with him.

k=173 is complete to n=1017K, and k=263 is complete to n=941K. No primes were found for either k, and I'm releasing them. The results are attached below.

MooooMoo 2009-08-27 23:56

The sieve file for k=173 can be found here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/woyx5r
for those of you who're interested in it. It's only sieved to p=2.3T, but it goes all the way from n=1M to n=2M.

I got the k=263 file from VBCurtis and Cruelty, so talk to them if you want to test this k further.

It's been a great joy to contribute to this project for the past three years, and I wish everyone luck in their prime-finding efforts.

VBCurtis 2009-08-28 07:09

I'll finish 263 to at least 1M. I still have the sieve file.
I am wrapping up a major project that was using ~10 cores for the past 9 months, so I'll be making reasonably fast progress on the half-dozen Cruelty k's I have now including this one, at least compared with 2008-09.

em99010pepe 2009-09-08 21:36

Cruelty,

How is the sieve going?

VBCurtis 2009-09-11 05:43

The sieve is running! At 2T, 8.1 million candidates in the file.
Cruelty is sieving at 2T, I'm working on 8-10T.
It's slow going- on a core2-2.2ghz, around 3 weeks per T on a single core.
Such a large sieve is very efficient- at 8T, I find a factor in less than 50 seconds.

To keep this thread less cluttered, I suggest anyone interested in sieving to PM cruelty and I for more details.

Is it OK to take k=297 ?

If it is I reserve that k.
Reserving k=161 (from n=1M)
I can't edit that post, but I'd like to add that I have a 6 core machine that's on 24 hours a day, and most of those cores will be used on that k if my reservation is accepted. I'll also post updates here every month or two.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon, since I'm eager to start sieving

Kosmaj 2010-08-01 06:34

Your reservation is accepted, and we wish you many primes!

I'll check my old files to see whether I have any presieved file for k=161 and will let you know if I do.
