Maybe some of the five-year old reservations could be released and cleaned up?

There is one single reservation that always sticks out to me when I do "Ctrl-F" "bata". It is from 2009; there are probably some other 2009 reservations like it - reserved in 2009 and never renewed/released?

A while ago I messaged the worst offenders for sequences without progress. A few of them commented that the sequences they had were ahead of the rest.

Looking back this was November 2013. Maybe it is time to do this again. I feel inclined to kill all reservations that haven't had any movement in the database for the last 2 years.
Anyone got contact details for Clifford Stern since his site went down?

Sounds good, but detecting movements (or "last heartbeats" as e.g. [I]ganglia[/I] would call them) is tricky in this case.
Some movements in the database happen even if nobody works on a sequence because of other people factoring random composites, maybe.

(I still plan to bring everything to 2015, AND 150 digits, AND with at least 140 digits cofactor, AND well ecm'd to 33%, but I always push other things up the priorities list :blush:, also some are already higher, but not reported, I have to go through those old cores/foders)

I'd prefer you not to do that, because I tend to make quite large reservations precisely of sequences which haven't moved in the database for several years, and I have finite resources so can't start all the jobs simultaneously. So there are a fair number of sequences reserved for me that apparently haven't moved since 2012, but which will be processed relatively soon.

Can you bear in mind that the script needs a certain format for reservations. It needs a word such as taking in the same line as the sequence numbers. The code tags also messed it up.

Yep, it's difficult to parse the HTML; it was simple to ignore any blocks of code, and any text that preceded them, so I just ignore all quote/code blocks and take the last hunk of text as the text to parse.

I've been thinking about making a nearly-trivial tokenizer for the keywords instead of just keyword-to-linebreak, but haven't collected enough roundtuits yet.

It depends on the size of the cofactor; I run for 10% of the time that I estimate the GNFS will take (where this estimate is exp(0.113*number_of_digits-1.8) seconds). For a C112 that's about 2000 curves at B1=1e6, for a C122 it's about 5000, for a C135 it's about 20000.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. It seems that the -m 4 option for aliqueit is doing roughly the same. I scanned through the logfile and found that prior to a gnfs run there where usually 524 curves run at B1=1e6 and that indeed the ecm took 10% of the time the gnfs run took after that (for a 100digit cofactor). I increased the ecm level a little bit and monitor the times.

@ChristianB A lot of those smaller cofactors (< 120 digits) are relatively straightforward, and I'd recommend that you try to keep going on these sequences until they reach a cofactor of at least 120 digits.
