I can't keep track of which lines are new so I have to resubmit everything everytime I update the DB. All terminated or merged sequences are already in the DB.

I might take out and submit all sequences above 90 digits, but this requires significant manual work so I definitely won't do this daily.

I've listed it as a termination - I think it should only be a merge if the sequence that it merges into is open.

But this would cause problems if someone found a merge, countinued working on the merged sequence, and terminated it...

...but luckily we haven't had that happen yet.

Andi47 2009-09-11 15:12

Then it would only be a "merge" as long as it is not terminated.

10metreh 2009-09-11 15:17
Then it would only be a "merge" as long as it is not terminated.
Right, this is getting a bit confusing. If the scenario I mentioned does happen, then I will get REALLY confused. Therefore all we need to do to get me really confused is to
get biwema to work on all the sequences mentioned in the last column of the table in the first post. (i.e. 126792, 660, 102936 etc.)

Greebley 2009-09-11 17:07

If a sequence can go from open ended to prime, then I think one could go from merge to prime as well.

I think the ultimate find would be a sequence that merges with itself. If so you have found a cycle that is hundreds or thousands long and beat the mere 28 that is the record now.

10metreh 2009-09-11 17:09
I think the ultimate find would be a sequence that merges with itself. If so you have found a cycle that is hundreds or thousands long and beat the mere 28 that is the record now.
My bet with myself is that a cycle at least 1000 iterations long will be found by the end of 2012.

(The chances are higher than you might expect - about 1/6 of the numbers below 1000000 do not terminate in a prime, but are either open or merged. So 276 does not just have to drop down to 276 to merge - it could drop to 306, 396 or any other number that merges with it and still a really long cycle would be formed.)

The computation has clearly been completed at one time, but the full data of it has apparently not yet reached the DB at factordb.com. If you like, you could fill in the rest of the lines. Or (now that you've brought attention to it) someone else will find or rework the last ~500 lines and submit the data to the DB.

Nice. Are you going to check the others too?

I think that Wieb's next update may be coming soon, he tends to do them about once every 6 months. Have you tried to contact him again? It may now be important to do so because he will probably waste loads of time duplicating Subproject 2 otherwise.

after comparing my pages with the FactorDB i found this missing terminations:

from W.Creyaufm├╝ller's page: C.Stern has done 98616

614240 merged with 553986 which was done by unconnected.

859440 was mentioned on Wolfgangs page, done by biwema.

others not mentioned here:
475440, 603204, 691096, 859368 (this seems biwema's, too)

and last but not least: the FactorDB shows 403305 as open sequence, but it is not!

I've mailed him 4 months ago: he's aware of this forum and the summary-pages and agreed to have all data in one database.
But there was no answer about my question of giving his data to fill in.

Even though this merges and continues for another 1000 lines, I've listed it as a Prime termination since after the first merge it doesn't get very big (under 45 digits).
