Status of 26.0M - 26.5M

At the current rate of factoring, there should be about 3 weeks left before this range needs to go into Primenet. What with a new prime being discovered, that may be optimistic. Does anyone need any help? Is it time to call out the fast Athlons again?

ThomRuley 2004-05-27 00:51

I'm pretty sure I won't be able to finish my range in three weeks, so I'll simply turn in 26.35-26.4 to someone with a faster computer that can do that range to 62 bits. However, I'm sure I can finish 26.3-26.35 in the next week or so. I'll give results to George when done.

Because we are talking actually about the whole 26M range (all ranges above 26.5M now available) it would be nice if you could finish as much as possible, ie. before June 15th (TF will then drop below 1000 exponents). So please check if you can maybe finish up to 26.36 or 23.37M by mid of June, we do need any power reserve for some bigger ranges above 26.5M.
Please check also the new nofactor file, there are about 90 exponents around 26.345 already at 62 bit, but the rest is unfortunately still at 59 bit.

tom11784 2004-05-27 10:40

Are you saying that the entire 26-27M range will be added sometime shortly after June 15th, and not just 26-26.5M?

hbock 2004-05-27 12:21
Are you saying that the entire 26-27M range will be added sometime shortly after June 15th, and not just 26-26.5M?
Not necessarily, but the idea was to avoid last minute actions like for 25.5-26M, to gain more time for preparation and to reduce effort of administration as well. (http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=2413)

ThomRuley 2004-05-27 14:28

I'll go to 26.36, but I don't think I can go much farther than that by June 15. It would be better if someone else took over 26.36-26.4 in the meantime.

Ok, thanks, I'll post this range as available and wanted.

26-26.5M is finished to 62 bit and ready for primenet release, I've sent a PM to George.

According the new nofactor there are more than 700 exponents missing in the range 26.3-26.36M, see file added.
Please check that and resend them asap. I've also sent a PM, hope that George can wait one day longer.

tom11784 2004-06-14 10:39

I'll grab cleanup on the 2 exponents not in this range (26120047,26247211) and possibly add some from this range if we don't hear from ThomRuley today.

edit: I know this would be a pain, but if we don't hear from Thom today is there any chance of George adding 26.0-26.3 today and 26.3-26.5 in a couple days?

ThomRuley 2004-06-14 14:34

Go ahead and factor those exponents. Somehow in distributing the assignment among three computers, I managed to lose these exponents. Now it's a little late for my old computer to take them. Sorry about that.

tom11784 2004-06-14 15:24

ok folks - we can use some help if George will hold this off - any word of whether this is happening or not?

I'm grabbing the 73 up to 26,312,999 for my "fast" machine.
This is about 2 days worth.
I'll submit what I have done before I leave work each afternoon and when I get to work each morning (EDT).

I'll also split the 103 from 26,313,000 to 26,316,999 between 2 other machines - again about 2 days worth.

That leaves 560 exponents from 26,317,000 to 26,338,812 available for factoring.

garo 2004-06-14 15:32

I'kll take everything from 26,317,000 to 26,320,000. About 70 exponents.

nfortino 2004-06-14 16:23

It looks like George has just released the exponents. Using the archived data files, I estimate the exponents would have run out in a bit over 2 days from now, which seems far too soon to finish 700 exponents.

I didn't expect that, since this about 50% of the range, but sh** happens
It's a pity, that the range was submitted on June 2, but nobody checked the status files from June 4 - bad timing.
(Usually I'm checking at least my own results in the nofactor file, but ... )
Anyway, does anybody know wether it makes sense to hand the missing range in later or not ?

MrHappy 2004-06-14 18:11

I don't think George wants to establish a precedent case here. B
It's a pity, that the range was submitted on June 2, but nobody checked the status files from June 4 - bad timing.
If you look above in my 6/4 nofactor post it shows that they were 60, but Thom said he submitted to 62, so I put the submitted to 62 tag.

Oh well...

So are the ones in Primenet totally gone for us or can we still update?

Prime95 2004-06-14 23:57

If you use the manual web forms to submit 26.3M results before the range is being handed out, then all should be OK. I hope.

garo 2004-06-15 08:24

Thanks George. I'll crunch mine and hand them in before Primenet reaches 26.3 so that I do not step on anyone else's toes.

hbock 2004-06-18 14:53

Is anybody working on the other 488 exponents from 26,320,000 to 26,338,812 ? Please post it here, just to know what's left.

garo 2004-06-18 16:46

I think that wabbit(chalsall) has already worked on them. He submitted about 20 factors in the range which is about the right number. It's a shame that his effort was not coordinated with ours which could have prevented some duplication of effort. Oh well.

In any case, it will be futile to do the range now. I bet no other factors will be found upto 62 bits.
