I forced an update on the Blue Page and it still shows the correct info, while factordb does not. Interesting. . .
That is due to how the blue page update mechanism works. We only store the ID of the last composite and check if this number got factored in the meantime. We don't update the whole sequence with every update. The sequences usually get "broken" when the factordb server rebuilds the sequence cache. This is only a problem for the blue page when the broken index is higher than the last saved index. Those two sequences got broken after the blue page updated them (see progress column) while they where not broken in fdb at the time in the past. |
Thank you for these explanations !

But on the blue page, his sequences are progressing. Sequence 2360 is not booked by him right now but there was an update in March. Have you tried to contact him anyway ?
None of the sequences listed as reserved by him have seen progress since January 2019: I wouldn't call that "progressing". The March update to 2360 was me. This sequence was reserved by Tom Womack (fivemack) when Clavier's site was last updated, but he unreserved it in July 2019. The blue page hasn't updated with my reservation. Does it not automatically update reservations below 10000? I tried sending Clavier an email at the address listed on his site, and got an "address not found" error. I've found an updated email address; we'll see what he has to say. |
Clavier got back to me:
Sorry but I have not sufficient time to compute nor to manage reservation for sequences < 10000. So feel free to compute on this sequence. If you know of someone who will manage these sequences, please keep me informed
So it should be OK to work in this range, and presumably also to work on sequences listed as reserved by him. |
Wow !
This is a scoop ! I did not know all this information ! Do we really have to manage these sequences separately ? Can we not manage them like all the others between 10,000 and 3e6 ? |
There is no need of other "management" except what is automatically done by the blue bot. CC maybe used to "manage" the things on paper, but those times are long gone. We should just remove CC's reservation, so the people can reserve and work the sequences as usual. In the past we used to work some of the "under 10k" and add the terms without reservation, to avoid polemics (many sequences <10k which advanced recently are not advanced by CC, in fact he only has about 40 reserved from the about 80 remaining under 10k). For example, we added like a thousand terms to 4290, before passing it to Tom when it became unmanageable for us, and then he tried to break that driver for another 100 terms or so, without success. Now is unreserved, and free to take.
There is no need of other "management" except what is automatically done by the blue bot.
Not great if the blue bot ignores reservations below 10000, as it appears to have done with mine... Or does it not accept reservations where there is other text in the post? |
Other text in the post should have nothing to do, if different paragraph. The code of the parser is here around somewhere. Best, PM ChristianB, he can fix it if there are any limits.
|
Best, PM Chris2be, he can fix it if there are any limits.
To prevent possible confusion, I'm not Christophe Clavier and I don't do any work on aliquot sequences. So a PM to me won't do any good. Chris |

Chris
Haha, sorry man, a million bows.   I mean ChristianB, the (co)author and actual maintainer of the script and the blue page. Maybe he has avoiding that range in the code (here is only wild ass guess, I didn't look in the parser's code). I see his last post was in March, so he is still around. I edited my post to fix the gaffe. |

I was wondering why it didn't update the reservation status, but since other < 10000 number actually did show reservation by someone I assumed it wasn't reserved.

I thought that people would be more likely to look for sequences without drivers and with small composites than for c160s to factor. And that might still be true, so I'm going to hold off for now. To give you an idea of what I mean, here is the current status of the sequence, at line 2855:
2527215137...24<106> = 2^3 · 13 · 31^2 · 977 · 2588158823...23<98>

Did you hear back from Clavier? If he's ok with it, the numbers could be included in the blue page system.
Yes, see post 3473. I PM'd ChristianB who runs the blue page but he hasn't logged onto the forum since April. |
I agree with charybdis' reasoning. I have had a number of downdriver runs poached in the past, so if one of my reserved numbers gets a downdriver, I hold off posting to factordb.
|
I see, I got your reason for withholding wrong, so you're working on it?
But wouldn't that make some sort of reservation system for these ranges even more important? Worst case someone with a lot of computer power picks up that sequence and overtakes you without any malicious intent. If the blue page isn't updated, maybe a thread here at MF just for n < 10000? There are a couple ones I thought looked interesting but were in that range. |
